Allianz Care Dietitian Network

Supporting Allianz Care Australia OSHC members to better manage chronic conditions

At Allianz Care Australia we believe our members deserve the best possible access to care across the conditions that make the most impact to their lives.

Unfortunately, seeking appropriate treatment and managing conditions in a new country can be a complex journey. For this reason, Allianz Care Australia has expanded our direct billing arrangements to include access to dieticians across Australia.

A dietitian is a university-trained practitioner that has a degree in nutrition and dietetics. Dietitians provide expert advice on eating, nutrition, and food choices. They provide a range of services designed to help with the management and treatment of a range of conditions including:

  • Nutrition support
  • Weight management
  • Optimising body composition
  • Develop new skills in menu planning and shopping
  • Recover from illness or injury
  • Managing your health conditions
  • Improving mental health

Dietitians are often involved in the care and management of a range of conditions including:

  • Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Gastrointestinal issues and digestive system disorders
  • Mental health (particularly eating disorders)
  • Other chronic conditions and diseases

Step 1: Make an appointment with your GP (doctor) to talk about your condition.

If your GP puts a management plan in place for you, discuss who can best provide the services you need under your plan. As part of this plan, your GP may recommend and refer you to a dietitian. You can request that the GP provides you with an open referral so that you can choose a suitable dietitcian depending on your needs.

A GP management plan will need to be in place for you to be able to access the MBS benefits for treatment under your OSHC policy.

Step 2: Choose a dietitian and make contact

Finding a dietitian that is right for you is an important part of your treatment and care. It is important to contact the practitioner before you have your first appointment to ask about the cost of treatment. Under your Allianz Care Australia OSHC policy, treatment by a dietitian is covered at the MBS benefit amount. Often dietitians will charge fees above this amount and any gap fees between the MBS benefit amount and the practitioner’s fee is not covered under your OSHC policy, so it is important to choose a practitioner that suits your needs.

To make things easier for members, you can speak to one of the providers in our dietitian network to help you make the right choice in finding a suitable practitioner or use our find a doctor tool to locate a dietitian near you.
