  • From 7 December 2024, the Skills in Demand (SID) visa replaces the Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) visa. Allianz Care Australia offers Overseas Visitor Health Cover (OVHC) options to visa holders on either visa variant.

Are you travelling to Australia on a visa subclass 482?

We offer Overseas Visitor Health Cover (OVHC) for international visitors on the 482 visa. Our OVHC is Australia-wide and lets you access medical and health cover if something happens during your stay.

The Department of Home Affairs requires 482 visa holders to take out health insurance each time they travel to Australia.

The Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (TSS) has been replaced by the Skills in Demand (SID) visa. This change came into effect by the Australian Government on 7 December 2024.

Any visa applications lodged with the Department of Home Affairs on or after 7 December 2024 will be processed as a Skills in Demand (SID) visa application.

This change does NOT affect the health cover that we can provide to international workers under the visa subclass 482.

The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa has been replaced by the Skills in Demand (SID) visa. The TSS visa is closed to new applications. This visa allows existing visa holders to travel to Australia to work in their nominated occupation for their approved sponsor.

If you currently hold a Temporary Skill Shortage visa, you can visit Australia for different amounts of time depending on the stream. There are 4 streams:

  1. Short-term stream
  2.  Medium-term stream
  3.   Labour agreement stream
  4.   Subsequent entrant
To find more information about the TSS visa, vist the Deparment of Home Affairs repealed visas section.
The Skills in Demand (SID) visa has replaced the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa. The SID visa lets an employer sponsor a skilled worker to fill a position when they cannot find a suitable Australian with the skills for the job.

The SID visa still allows workers to stay in Australia for varying amounts of time depending on the stream. These are the 4 new streams available under the 482 visa subclass:

  1. Core Skills stream
  2.  Specialist Skills stream
  3.   Labour agreement stream
  4.   Subsequent entrant

For more information about the 482 Skills in Demand visa, visit the Department of Home Affairs.

To be eligible to apply:
  • an approved sponsor must nominate you for a skilled position
  • you must have the correct skills for the job
  • you must meet the relevant English language requirements
