Understanding your OSHC policy inclusions and out of pocket expenses

Seek medical treatment with confidence

If you get sick or injured it’s important you understand what is covered under Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) policy.

OSHC includes many general health services and gives you a level of cover similar to the benefits Australians get from Medicare. See our OSHC Standard Benefits Flyer and OSHC Essentials Benefits Flyer for an overview of policy inclusions.

We use the Medicare Benefits Schedule and hospital state rates to determine the benefit you receive medical treatments and services included in your policy.

When reading your policy wording document, you will see a percentage of the Medicare Benefits Schedule fee you are eligible for.

The above image serves as an example of how policy inclusions are displayed in our policy wording documents. Please refer to the current policy wording document.
When a medical provider charges more than the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) fee for a medical treatment or procedure, you will need to pay the difference. This is known as an out-of-pocket expense or gap fee.

Note: MBS fees are updated annually. We recommend contacting your chosen provider to confirm current fees and to understand any gap fees that may apply prior to seeking treatment.

Don’t forget to use our Find a Doctor tool to find direct billing providers in your local area. By using a direct billing doctor, they will charge us directly for  the amount covered under your Allianz Care policy and you will only need to pay a gap fee if it applies. We even have gap free providers.

Waiting periods, exclusions, limitations and terms and conditions apply. See the policy wording document for more information.
